What does a School Counselor do?
We want students at VB to get the most out of school...and life! We are trained to help you find solutions to your problems, meet the challenges of growing up and to better understand and appreciate who you are. We talk with you about personal problems, social/friendship/family problems, academics, and plans for your future. We do this by helping you express your feelings and needs, explore options to each problem and reach decisions/set goals. We also take care of scheduling issues, State Testing Coordination and sharing community resources with you and your family. We work by collaborating with you, parents/guardians, teachers/administrators, and appropriate organizations within the community in order to help students be successful at school and get the most out of their education. |
What about Confidentiality?
Most of the time what you discuss with us is kept confidential (meaning it stays between us), unless you give us permission to share information with the appropriate people. However, the law states that if you are going to hurt yourself or someone else, or if someone is hurting you, we have to report it to the appropriate person or organization. |
